285 Lexington Avenue is a Privately Owned Public Space on Lexington Avenue in Murray Hill, providing an indoor publicly accessible lobby near the 37th Street crosstown corridor.

Lexington Avenue in the upper 30s is a commercial corridor serving both the Murray Hill residential neighborhood and the southern edge of the Midtown office district. The avenue carries heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic as one of the East Side's primary north-south routes.

The Lexington Avenue subway (4, 5, 6 trains) runs beneath this avenue and is one of the most heavily used subway lines in the world. The line's overcrowding was a primary motivation for the construction of the Second Avenue subway, which has relieved some of the pressure.

Murray Hill's location along Lexington Avenue gives it direct subway access to Grand Central Terminal (three stops north) and Downtown Manhattan, making it one of the best-connected residential neighborhoods on the East Side.

This indoor POPS provides climate-controlled public space along one of the East Side's busiest and most transit-rich avenues.
