51 West 52nd Street is a Privately Owned Public Space in Midtown between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, providing both indoor atrium and outdoor plaza spaces near the CBS Building and Rockefeller Center.
The CBS Building (Black Rock) at 51 West 52nd Street, designed by Eero Saarinen and completed in 1965, is one of the most architecturally distinguished office buildings in Midtown. Its dark granite facade and freestanding concrete columns give it a monumental presence.
Saarinen, who also designed the TWA Terminal at JFK Airport and the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, created one of his finest works in the CBS Building. It is the only skyscraper Saarinen designed and was completed after his death.
The POPS serves the Midtown community near Rockefeller Center, MoMA, and the 21 Club, in one of the most architecturally and culturally significant blocks in the city.
This space provides both indoor and outdoor public access at one of Midtown's most important modernist landmarks.
