Spring Street Park

Spring Street Park is a small pocket park at the intersection of Spring Street and Sixth Avenue in SoHo. The park provides a modest green space at one of the neighborhood's busiest intersections, where the commercial energy of SoHo meets the residential character of the South Village.

Spring Street takes its name from a natural spring that once emerged from the ground in this area, feeding a stream that flowed toward the Hudson River. Like most of Manhattan's natural water features, the spring was buried and paved over as the city developed, but the street name preserves its memory.

The park features benches, plantings, and a small paved area. Its location in SoHo places it amid one of the world's premier shopping and gallery districts, where cast-iron commercial buildings from the 19th century now house designer boutiques, art galleries, and restaurants.

SoHo's transformation from a declining industrial neighborhood (its name stands for South of Houston) to a global fashion and art destination is one of the most dramatic neighborhood stories in New York City history.
