St. Mary's Park

St. Mary's Park is a 35.22-acre park in the Mott Haven and Port Morris sections of the South Bronx, one of the oldest and most significant parks in the borough. Established in 1899, the park occupies a hilltop that provides sweeping views of the surrounding neighborhoods and the Manhattan skyline.

The park was originally part of the estate of Gouverneur Morris Jr., whose family's landholdings gave the Morrisania neighborhood its name. The park's elevated terrain, which rises significantly above the surrounding streets, creates a sense of openness and elevation that is dramatic in the dense South Bronx landscape.

St. Mary's Park features a swimming pool, a recreation center, basketball and tennis courts, a running track, playing fields, playgrounds, and a skate park. The recreation center provides year-round programming for the Mott Haven and Port Morris communities.

Mott Haven has emerged as one of the most rapidly developing neighborhoods in the South Bronx, with new restaurants, art galleries, and residential construction transforming the area.
