2 Lincoln Square

2 Lincoln Square is a Privately Owned Public Space at a residential and retail complex near Lincoln Center on the Upper West Side. The POPS includes both indoor lobby and outdoor plaza spaces.

Lincoln Square, the neighborhood surrounding Lincoln Center, has been transformed by major residential and commercial development since the cultural campus was built in the 1960s. The area was previously a working-class neighborhood of tenements and small businesses.

The redevelopment that created Lincoln Center displaced thousands of residents, a history depicted in the original 1961 film 'West Side Story,' which was filmed on location in the neighborhood's soon-to-be-demolished blocks.
