33 Maiden Lane is a Privately Owned Public Space on Maiden Lane in the Financial District, providing an indoor lobby and through-block connection in the heart of the Insurance District.

Maiden Lane's colonial-era name, referencing the young women who washed laundry along a stream that once flowed here, is one of the most evocative street names in Lower Manhattan. The stream was buried centuries ago, but the name preserves a fragment of New York's pastoral past.

The building at 33 Maiden Lane is near the Federal Reserve Bank of New York on Liberty Street, which holds the largest repository of gold bullion in the world in its underground vaults. An estimated $300 billion in gold is stored beneath the streets of the Financial District.
