Andrew Haswell Green Park

Andrew Haswell Green Park stretches along the East River Esplanade on Manhattan's Upper East Side, offering waterfront views and a pleasant promenade setting. The park is named for Andrew Haswell Green, the 19th-century civic leader often called the Father of Greater New York.

Green was instrumental in the creation of Central Park, serving as president of the Board of Commissioners of Central Park from 1857 to 1870. He oversaw the implementation of Olmsted and Vaux's Greensward Plan, managing the park's construction through the tumultuous Civil War era.

Beyond Central Park, Green championed the consolidation of the five boroughs into a single city in 1898, the creation of the New York Public Library, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the American Museum of Natural History.
