Grand Canal Court

Grand Canal Court is a small waterfront park along the Hudson River in Tribeca, near the intersection of Laight Street and the West Side Highway. The park is part of the larger Hudson River Park system and provides waterfront access in a neighborhood that was once dominated by piers and industrial activity.

The park's name references the historical geography of Lower Manhattan's west side, where canals, wharves, and shipping slips once lined the Hudson River waterfront. The area around Laight Street was part of a bustling maritime district that has been almost entirely replaced by residential and commercial development.

Grand Canal Court features seating, plantings, and a paved area with views across the Hudson to New Jersey. Its small scale makes it more of a resting point along the waterfront esplanade than a destination in its own right, but it contributes to the continuous chain of public spaces along the river.

The Tribeca waterfront has been one of the last sections of Manhattan's west side to be fully developed for public use. As new sections of Hudson River Park have opened, small spaces like Grand Canal Court have filled gaps in the waterfront promenade, creating a more seamless pedestrian experience.
