College Point Fields

College Point Fields is a 26.83-acre athletic complex in the College Point section of northern Queens, near College Point Boulevard and 23rd Avenue. The facility provides playing fields for organized sports in a neighborhood with a distinct small-town character on the shores of the East River.

College Point takes its name from St. Paul's College, an Episcopal seminary founded in 1835 by the Reverend William Augustus Muhlenberg; the college closed around 1850, but its name endured. The village was developed in the 1850s and 1860s by the German-American industrialist Conrad Poppenhusen, who built a hard-rubber factory and a model community, with schools and a railroad, for his workers.

The fields host youth and adult sports leagues including soccer, baseball, and football. College Point's population has become increasingly diverse, with large East Asian, South Asian, and Latino communities joining the neighborhood's older European-American residents.

College Point's relative isolation from the subway system has preserved its insular character and helped maintain a strong sense of community identity. The athletic fields serve as gathering places where this community comes together through organized sport.
