Faber Park

Faber Park is a 4.5-acre waterfront park along Richmond Terrace on the Kill Van Kull in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Staten Island's North Shore. The park provides waterfront access and recreation along the narrow tidal strait that separates Staten Island from New Jersey.

The Kill Van Kull is one of the busiest shipping channels in the port of New York, with massive container ships, oil tankers, and barges passing through the narrow waterway en route to the port facilities of Newark and Elizabeth. Watching the maritime traffic from Faber Park provides a front-row seat to the working harbor.

The park features a swimming pool, basketball courts, a playground, and a waterfront promenade. The pool is one of the most important summer recreation facilities on the North Shore, serving a diverse community that includes Mexican, Sri Lankan, and African American families.

Port Richmond's North Shore location gives it a closer cultural and economic connection to New Jersey (visible across the Kill Van Kull) than to the South Shore communities of Staten Island. The park serves this community with comprehensive recreation facilities in a compact waterfront setting.
