Long Pond Park is an 84-acre nature preserve in the Huguenot and Annadale areas of southern Staten Island, protecting one of the largest freshwater wetland complexes on the island. The park's centerpiece is Long Pond, a freshwater body surrounded by swamp forest and marsh habitat.

The park's wetland ecosystems support a remarkable diversity of plant and animal species, including rare plants, breeding amphibians, nesting birds, and a variety of reptiles and mammals. The freshwater wetlands provide essential ecological services including flood control, water filtration, and groundwater recharge.

Long Pond Park connects to other natural areas in southern Staten Island, contributing to a corridor of green space that supports wildlife movement and habitat connectivity. The park's large size allows it to support species that require extensive territory, including hawks and great horned owls.

The park features trails through wooded and wetland areas, providing nature walking opportunities that are among the finest on the island. The wetland boardwalks allow visitors to explore habitats that would otherwise be inaccessible, bringing people close to the aquatic ecosystems without disturbing them.

Long Pond Park preserves an irreplaceable natural resource: a large, intact freshwater wetland within the boundaries of New York City. The park's ecological significance extends beyond its borders, contributing to the health of the broader watershed and supporting species that depend on connected natural habitats.
