Harding Park

Harding Park is a three-acre waterfront park in the Clasons Point section of the southeastern Bronx, situated where the Bronx River empties into Long Island Sound. The park takes its name from the surrounding Harding Park residential community, a small enclave of single-family homes on a peninsula jutting into the Sound.

The Harding Park community is one of the most unusual residential areas in the Bronx: a neighborhood of modest bungalows and houses on a narrow spit of land surrounded on three sides by water. The community has a village-like character that feels more like a seaside hamlet than a neighborhood in the nation's fourth-largest city.

The park provides waterfront access and green space for this small community, with views across the Sound to the Throgs Neck Bridge and the Queens shoreline. The park's intimate scale matches the character of the surrounding neighborhood.

Clasons Point and the Harding Park area have been the subject of flood resilience planning following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy, which demonstrated the vulnerability of low-lying coastal communities throughout the city.
