Bushwick Playground is a neighborhood playground on Bushwick Avenue near Humboldt Street in the heart of Bushwick. The playground serves families in one of Brooklyn's most rapidly changing neighborhoods, providing outdoor play space in a community where many families live in apartments without private yards.

The playground features modern play equipment, basketball courts, and seating areas. Its location along busy Bushwick Avenue makes it visible and accessible to the surrounding community, and the playground's fenced enclosure provides a sense of safety for children playing near the busy thoroughfare.

Bushwick's history of devastating fires and abandonment in the 1970s left the neighborhood with large numbers of vacant lots, many of which were eventually rebuilt as housing. The playground occupies one of the parcels reserved for public use, ensuring that recreation space was preserved as the neighborhood was rebuilt.

The neighborhood today is home to a diverse mix of longtime Latino residents (primarily Puerto Rican and Dominican), newer immigrants from Mexico and Central America, and the artists and young professionals who have been drawn to Bushwick by its affordable rents and creative energy.

Bushwick Playground is the kind of unassuming neighborhood facility that makes daily life workable for Brooklyn families: a clean, safe outdoor space where children can run, climb, and play, and where parents and caregivers can sit and connect with their neighbors.
