Seth Low Playground

Seth Low Playground is a 2.5-acre playground at Bay Parkway and Avenue P in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. The playground is named for Seth Low, who served as Mayor of Brooklyn (before consolidation), president of Columbia University, and the second Mayor of the consolidated City of New York from 1902 to 1903.

Low was a reform politician who fought Tammany Hall corruption and championed good government principles. As president of Columbia University, he moved the institution from its cramped Midtown campus to its current Morningside Heights location, transforming both the university and the neighborhood.

The playground features modern play equipment, basketball courts, handball courts, and a spray shower. Its location in Bensonhurst places it within a diverse residential neighborhood of row houses and small apartment buildings, where Italian-American, Chinese, Russian, and Central Asian families share the surrounding streets.

Bensonhurst's 18th Avenue and 86th Street commercial corridors buzz with the energy of multiple immigrant communities, and the playground serves the families who call this multicultural neighborhood home. The facility's courts are heavily used for pickup basketball and handball games.
