St. Catherine's Park

St. Catherine's Park is a 1.38-acre neighborhood park on First Avenue between East 67th and 68th Streets on the Upper East Side. The park is named for St. Catherine of Siena, the 14th-century Italian mystic, theologian, and Doctor of the Church, reflecting the historical Catholic presence in the neighborhood.

The park provides recreation space in the eastern reaches of the Upper East Side, an area that transitions from the affluent townhouses and apartments of the Park Avenue corridor to the more mixed-use character of First and Second Avenues. The park serves families from both contexts.

Facilities include a playground with modern equipment, basketball courts, and a spray shower for summer cooling. The park's relatively generous size for this part of the Upper East Side makes it one of the more important neighborhood recreation spaces between Central Park and the East River.

The Upper East Side east of Lexington Avenue has traditionally been more working-class and ethnically diverse than the wealthier blocks closer to Central Park.
