Goethals Bridge Park is a green space near the Goethals Bridge in the Howland Hook section of northwestern Staten Island, providing parkland near one of the bridge crossings connecting Staten Island to New Jersey.
The Goethals Bridge, named for George Washington Goethals, the U.S. Army engineer who oversaw the construction of the Panama Canal, connects Staten Island to Elizabeth, New Jersey. The original 1928 bridge was replaced with a modern cable-stayed structure in 2018.
The park provides green space in the industrial northwestern corner of Staten Island, where port facilities, distribution centers, and transportation infrastructure dominate the landscape.
Howland Hook is home to a major container port operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, connecting Staten Island's economy to the global shipping network that flows through New York Harbor.
