Mariners Marsh Park is a 107-acre nature preserve in the Mariners Harbor section of Staten Island's western shore, protecting one of the most significant tidal wetland ecosystems in the New York metropolitan area.
The park's marshlands along the Arthur Kill waterway provide habitat for herons, egrets, osprey, and other shorebirds. The tidal wetlands filter pollutants, absorb floodwaters, and support the ecological health of the Arthur Kill estuary.
Mariners Harbor takes its name from the maritime workers who lived in the neighborhood when the Arthur Kill was a busy commercial waterway lined with shipyards, oil refineries, and industrial facilities.
