Richmond Creek Greenway is a developing trail and green corridor along Richmond Creek in the Greenridge section of Staten Island, connecting residential neighborhoods to the Arthur Kill waterfront.
Richmond Creek is one of several tidal creeks on Staten Island's western shore that connect the island's interior to the Arthur Kill, the tidal strait between Staten Island and New Jersey.
The greenway project aims to provide pedestrian and cycling access along the creek corridor while restoring the riparian habitat that buffers the waterway. Native plantings and wetland restoration improve water quality and provide wildlife habitat.
Staten Island's western shore communities, including Greenridge, Arden Heights, and Rossville, have a more suburban character than the North Shore, with detached houses, shopping centers, and a car-oriented lifestyle.
Richmond Creek Greenway provides a nature corridor through suburban Staten Island, connecting residents to the waterway and the western shoreline through a developing trail that follows one of the island's tidal creeks.
