Graniteville Quarry Park

Graniteville Quarry Park is a 4.46-acre park in the Graniteville neighborhood of central Staten Island, situated near the site of former quarrying operations that gave the neighborhood its name. Stone quarried from this area was used in the construction of buildings throughout the metropolitan region.

Graniteville's quarrying history dates to the 19th century, when the local trap rock, a hard diabase that is the same stone as the nearby Palisades cliffs, was quarried from 1841 to 1896 for use as building stone and paving material. The quarrying operations shaped both the physical landscape and the economic character of the neighborhood.

The park features a playground, basketball courts, and open green areas. Its location at the intersection of Forest and Richmond Avenues places it along two of Staten Island's primary commercial corridors, making it accessible to residents from the surrounding neighborhoods.
