Ocean Breeze Park is a 136.57-acre park and athletic complex on the eastern shore of Staten Island, home to the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, one of the most advanced indoor track and field facilities in the northeastern United States.
The Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, which opened in late 2015 after years of construction delays, features a 200-meter hydraulically banked indoor track, an eight-lane 60-meter straightaway, and comprehensive field-event facilities. It was the first indoor track in the United States to earn IAAF certification, and it hosts major collegiate and professional meets, including the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
First proposed in 2007, the roughly 93-million-dollar project (its budget later rising past 110 million) was repeatedly delayed, including a setback when Hurricane Sandy flooded the construction site in 2012 and ruined equipment. Built in one of the areas hardest hit by that storm, the complex now provides a year-round, weatherproof training environment on the eastern shore.
Beyond the athletic complex, the park includes outdoor fields, walking paths, and open areas along the eastern shore. The park's proximity to the FDR Boardwalk and the eastern shore beaches creates a recreation corridor from indoor athletics to ocean swimming.
Ocean Breeze Park combines world-class indoor athletics with neighborhood outdoor recreation, providing Staten Island with a sports facility that attracts competitors from across the country while serving the daily needs of the surrounding community.
