Haffen Park

Haffen Park is a 9.24-acre park in the Eastchester/Wakefield area of the northeastern Bronx. Named for Louis F. Haffen, who served as the first Borough President of the Bronx from 1898 to 1909, the park provides substantial recreation space in one of the borough's most residential neighborhoods.

Haffen oversaw the early development of the Bronx as an independent borough, managing the construction of roads, bridges, sewers, and parks during a period of explosive population growth. His tenure shaped much of the physical infrastructure that still serves the borough today.

The park features baseball diamonds, soccer fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, a running track, a playground, and open green areas. The athletic facilities support an extensive system of youth and adult sports leagues serving the Wakefield and Eastchester communities.

Wakefield and Eastchester are predominantly African American and Caribbean American residential communities at the northeastern edge of the Bronx, near the Westchester County border. The neighborhoods' suburban character, with detached homes and tree-lined streets, gives them a quiet residential atmosphere.
