St. James Park

St. James Park is an 11.25-acre park along Jerome Avenue between East 191st and 193rd Streets in the Fordham section of the central Bronx. Named for an adjacent church, the park provides substantial recreation space in one of the most commercially active neighborhoods in the borough.

The park sits along the Jerome Avenue commercial corridor, one of the busiest shopping districts in the Bronx. The elevated subway line above Jerome Avenue and the dense concentration of retail stores create a busy, energetic environment where the park's green space provides welcome relief.

St. James Park features basketball courts, a running track, a playground, a dog run, and open green areas. The park's relatively generous size for an urban neighborhood park makes it one of the more important recreation spaces in the Fordham area.

Fordham is home to a diverse population including large Dominican, Mexican, Albanian, and West African communities. Fordham University, the Jesuit institution founded in 1841, anchors the neighborhood's northern end and contributes students and faculty to the neighborhood's population.
