Hunts Point Landing

Hunts Point Landing is a two-acre waterfront park at Lafayette Avenue on the East River in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx. The park provides waterfront access in a neighborhood that is home to the Hunts Point Food Distribution Center, the largest food distribution complex in the world.

Hunts Point's waterfront was historically dominated by industrial and food distribution uses, with virtually no public access to the river. Community advocacy over several decades has gradually reclaimed portions of the shoreline for public parks, with Hunts Point Landing among the most recent additions.

The park features a waterfront esplanade, seating areas, and views across the East River to Rikers Island and the Queens shoreline. The park provides a direct connection to the water for a community that has been largely cut off from its own riverfront by industrial infrastructure.

The environmental justice movement in Hunts Point has been one of the most organized and effective in New York City, successfully advocating for cleaner air, reduced truck traffic, and public waterfront access in a neighborhood that has borne a disproportionate share of the city's industrial burden.

Hunts Point Landing represents the ongoing reclamation of the South Bronx waterfront for public use, transforming industrial shoreline into community space one park at a time.
