Bath Beach Park is a neighborhood park in the Bath Beach section of southern Brooklyn, serving a predominantly Italian-American and Chinese-American residential community along the shore of Gravesend Bay.
Bath Beach was originally a seaside resort community in the 19th century, attracting wealthy New Yorkers who built summer homes along the bay. The neighborhood takes its name from the 18th-century resort town of Bath, England.
The neighborhood's transition from summer resort to year-round residential community occurred in the early 20th century as subway access made southern Brooklyn accessible for daily commuting to Manhattan.
Bath Beach retains a strong Italian-American identity, with bakeries, delis, and social clubs that reflect the community's heritage. A growing Chinese-American population has added new businesses and cultural institutions.
