Breukelen Park

Breukelen Park is a 3.5-acre neighborhood park at East 94th Street and Foster Avenue in the Canarsie/East Flatbush area of Brooklyn. The park's name echoes the Dutch colonial spelling of Brooklyn, which was originally named Breukelen after a town in the Netherlands.

The Dutch settlement of Breukelen was one of the original six towns established on Long Island by the Dutch West India Company in the 17th century. The name gradually evolved into Brooklyn as English replaced Dutch as the dominant language, but the original Dutch spelling survives in this park and in the borough's historical identity.

The park features athletic courts, a playground, and open green areas serving the surrounding residential community. The Canarsie and East Flatbush neighborhoods are home to one of the largest Caribbean-American populations in New York City, with residents tracing their roots to Jamaica, Haiti, Trinidad, Guyana, and other Caribbean nations.
