Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm is the world's largest rooftop soil farm, growing over 80,000 pounds of organically cultivated produce annually on the rooftop of a building in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.
The farm was founded in 2010 and operates on multiple rooftops across New York City, but its Brooklyn Navy Yard location is the most expansive, with rows of vegetables, herbs, and flowers growing in engineered soil laid on the building's roof.
Brooklyn Grange supplies produce to local restaurants, farmers' markets, and community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs, demonstrating that commercial-scale agriculture is possible on New York City's underutilized rooftops.
The farm also maintains one of the largest rooftop apiaries in the country, with over 30 hives producing honey. The bees pollinate plants across the surrounding neighborhoods, providing ecological services beyond the farm's boundaries.
