Ditmas Park

Ditmas Park is a small neighborhood park in the Ditmas Park section of Flatbush, Brooklyn, providing green space in one of Brooklyn's most architecturally distinctive residential neighborhoods.

The Ditmas Park neighborhood is famous for its collection of Victorian and Colonial Revival freestanding houses, a rare sight in a city dominated by apartment buildings and row houses. The tree-lined streets and detached homes give the neighborhood a suburban character unique in Brooklyn.

The park serves as a community gathering space for one of Brooklyn's most diverse residential areas, where Caribbean, South Asian, and Eastern European communities share the Victorian streets.

The neighborhood was developed in the early 1900s by Lewis H. Pounds, who purchased the former Ditmas family farm and laid out streets with large lots suitable for freestanding houses. The resulting neighborhood is a preserved example of early suburban development in Brooklyn.
