Jane's Carousel is a beautifully restored 1922 carousel housed in a stunning Jean Nouvel-designed glass pavilion on the waterfront in Brooklyn Bridge Park's DUMBO section, with the Brooklyn Bridge towering directly overhead.
The carousel was originally built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company for the Idora Park amusement park in Youngstown, Ohio. Artist Jane Walentas spent over 20 years meticulously restoring its 48 hand-carved horses and two chariots to their original brilliance.
Jean Nouvel's glass pavilion, completed in 2011, creates a transparent enclosure that allows the carousel to be visible from the surrounding park while protecting it from the elements. At night, the illuminated pavilion glows like a jewel beneath the bridge.
The location beneath the Brooklyn Bridge, with views of the Manhattan skyline across the East River, makes Jane's Carousel one of the most photographed and Instagrammed attractions in Brooklyn.
Jane's Carousel combines 1920s American craftsmanship, contemporary French architecture, and one of the most dramatic urban settings in the world, creating an attraction that delights children and captivates adults.
