The Prospect Park Boathouse is a Beaux-Arts landmark building on Prospect Park's Lullwater, serving as the Audubon Center and one of the finest architectural features of Olmsted and Vaux's masterwork.
The Boathouse, designed by Helmle and Huberty and completed in 1905, is considered one of the most beautiful park buildings in New York City. Its white terra cotta facade, Palladian windows, and waterside setting create a scene of remarkable beauty.
The Audubon Center at the Prospect Park Boathouse is the first urban Audubon center in the nation, providing environmental education, birdwatching programs, and nature walks in a park that supports over 200 species of birds.
Prospect Park's 60-acre lake, the only lake in Brooklyn, stretches from the Boathouse through the park's southern section. Pedal boats are available for rental, and the lake supports a diverse ecosystem of fish, turtles, and waterfowl.
