Prospect Park Lookout Hill

Lookout Hill is the highest point in Prospect Park at 185 feet above sea level, providing panoramic views over the park's forest canopy and, through gaps in the trees, glimpses of the surrounding Brooklyn skyline.

Olmsted and Vaux designed Lookout Hill as the dramatic climax of a journey through the park's varied landscapes, with paths ascending through the Ravine's forests and emerging at the summit where the full scope of their creation becomes visible.

Lookout Hill is one of the premier birdwatching locations in Prospect Park, with the elevated position and surrounding forest canopy attracting migrating hawks, warblers, and other species during spring and fall migration periods.

The Maryland Monument on the summit honors the Maryland troops who fought and died during the Battle of Brooklyn in 1776, the same soldiers commemorated at Battle Hill in Green-Wood Cemetery. The monument connects the park to the Revolutionary War battlefield that once covered this landscape.
