Squibb Park

Squibb Park is a small park on the bluff of Brooklyn Heights at Middagh Street and Columbia Heights, connected to Brooklyn Bridge Park below by the Squibb Park Bridge, a dramatic pedestrian bridge that bounces and sways as visitors walk across it. The park is named for the E.R. Squibb & Sons pharmaceutical company, which operated a factory on the site in the 19th century.

Edward Robinson Squibb was a pioneering pharmacist who established his company in Brooklyn in 1858 with a commitment to producing medications of consistent quality, a revolutionary concept at a time when adulteration was rampant. His Brooklyn facility was one of the first pharmaceutical manufacturing plants in America.

The Squibb Park Bridge, designed by Ted Zoli of HNTB Corporation, provides a pedestrian connection from the top of the Brooklyn Heights bluff to Pier 1 of Brooklyn Bridge Park 50 feet below. The bridge's trampoline-like bounce has made it a beloved (and occasionally controversial) feature of the park.

The park features a playground, lawns, and sitting areas amid mature trees on the heights above the waterfront. Its elevated position provides views across Brooklyn Bridge Park to the East River, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Lower Manhattan skyline.

Squibb Park serves as a gateway between the historic residential neighborhood of Brooklyn Heights and the contemporary waterfront park below, connecting the 19th-century brownstone elegance of the Heights with the 21st-century landscape innovation of Brooklyn Bridge Park.
