Sternberg Park

Sternberg Park is a 4.04-acre neighborhood park in the East Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, bounded by Boerum, Leonard, and Lorimer Streets and Montrose Avenue, beside the Lindsay Park Houses. The park serves a dense residential area with a synthetic turf field, basketball and handball courts, a dog run, and play areas.

The City acquired the property in 1919, when the surrounding block was among the most congested in Brooklyn, packed with tenements, stores, and small workshops. The park was later expanded in 1964 under an Urban Renewal Plan that also produced the adjacent Lindsay Park Houses and the rebuilt George H. Lindsay School (P.S. 250).

A synthetic turf field added in 2021 draws athletes for football, baseball, and other sports, while the southern end of the park includes a well-used dog park and a large children's area alongside the basketball and handball courts.

Williamsburg has transformed dramatically over recent decades, from a working-class industrial and immigrant neighborhood into one of Brooklyn's most sought-after areas. Sternberg Park offers a rugged, old-school counterpoint to that change, serving longtime residents of the Lindsay Park co-ops and the surrounding blocks.
