Vinegar Hill Park

Vinegar Hill Park is a small green space in Vinegar Hill, one of the tiniest and most historically preserved neighborhoods in Brooklyn. The area's cobblestone streets and Federal-era buildings make it feel like a 19th-century village frozen in time.

Vinegar Hill takes its name from the 1798 Battle of Vinegar Hill in Ireland, reflecting the Irish immigrant heritage of many early Brooklyn neighborhoods. The neighborhood consists of only a few blocks between DUMBO and the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

The Brooklyn Navy Yard, adjacent to Vinegar Hill, operated as a military shipbuilding facility from 1801 to 1966 and is now a thriving industrial park housing manufacturers, film studios, and technology companies employing over 10,000 workers.

Vinegar Hill's preservation is remarkable given its location between the rapidly developed DUMBO waterfront and the Navy Yard's industrial campus. The neighborhood's tiny scale and historic character make it one of Brooklyn's most charming discoveries.
