William Kelly Memorial Park

William Kelly Memorial Park, officially William E. Kelly Park (also called Kelly Park Playground), is a 3.5-acre park in the Homecrest section of Brooklyn, on Avenue S between East 14th and East 15th Streets. Divided by the elevated Brighton Beach line into a larger western parcel and a smaller eastern playground, it is the central green space of the neighborhood.

The park is named for William E. Kelly (1872-1929), a Brooklyn-born civil servant recognized nationally for his public service. Kelly was president of the National Letter Carriers Association, was appointed county postmaster by President Woodrow Wilson, and then served as Clerk of Kings County from 1916 until his death in 1929. The park was named in his honor that same year.

The park features dual baseball diamonds, tennis, basketball, and handball courts, a fitness course, and play equipment. It was substantially expanded and improved in 1940 by Works Progress Administration labor, and students from the adjacent public and yeshiva schools use the playground when school is in session.

Homecrest is a quiet residential neighborhood in southeastern Brooklyn, between Gravesend and Sheepshead Bay, traditionally home to a large Italian community and now also to residents from Russia, China, Israel, Syria, Latin America, and South Asia. The park serves this diverse population as shared recreation space.

William E. Kelly Park serves as the recreational heart of Homecrest, providing the ballfields, courts, and play areas that anchor daily life in a neighborhood that values its residential calm and community bonds.
