Williamsburg Bridge Park occupies the waterfront beneath the Williamsburg Bridge on the Brooklyn side, providing public space, sports courts, and river access in the shadow of one of the East River's three great suspension bridges.
The Williamsburg Bridge, completed in 1903, was the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time of its opening. The bridge connected the crowded Jewish immigrant community of the Lower East Side to the emerging neighborhoods of Williamsburg.
The bridge's opening triggered a massive migration of Jewish families from the Lower East Side tenements to Williamsburg, establishing the Orthodox Jewish community that remains one of the neighborhood's defining populations today.
The park provides basketball courts, a small beach volleyball area, and waterfront seating with views of the Manhattan skyline through the bridge's steel cables. The location beneath the bridge creates a dramatic, sheltered outdoor environment.
Williamsburg Bridge Park provides recreation beneath the bridge that transformed Williamsburg from a remote Brooklyn village into one of the most culturally complex neighborhoods in the city.
