Stuyvesant Cove Park is a waterfront park on the East River between 18th and 23rd Streets, providing one of the few direct connections between the Gramercy / Stuyvesant Town neighborhoods and the East River Esplanade.
The park was built on a former Con Edison fuel depot site, transforming an industrial waterfront property into a public amenity that includes a solar-powered environmental classroom, native plantings, and a waterfront promenade.
Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village, the massive middle-class housing complexes adjacent to the park, house over 25,000 residents in one of the largest planned residential developments in Manhattan. The park serves as the community's primary waterfront access.
The Solar One Green Energy, Arts, and Education Center within the park provides environmental education programs powered by solar panels, demonstrating sustainable energy technology in a public setting.
