Pier 35 at the East River Waterfront is a public pier in the Lower East Side section of the East River Esplanade, providing waterfront access with views of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Williamsburg Bridge, and the Brooklyn waterfront.
The pier is part of the East River Waterfront project that has opened Lower Manhattan's eastern shoreline to public use for the first time in over a century, reclaiming waterfront that was blocked by highways and industrial facilities.
The Lower East Side waterfront connects the historic immigrant neighborhood to the East River, providing the community's first direct access to the water since the elevated FDR Drive was constructed in the 1940s and 1950s.
The surrounding Lower East Side, the most famous immigrant gateway in American history, has been transformed from a tenement district into one of Manhattan's most dynamic neighborhoods, with galleries, restaurants, and luxury development alongside the remaining tenement buildings.
