Bayswater Park

Bayswater Park is a 40.16-acre waterfront park in the Far Rockaway section of the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens, overlooking Jamaica Bay. The park provides green space, athletic facilities, and waterfront access in a neighborhood at the far southeastern edge of the city.

The Rockaway Peninsula is a narrow barrier island stretching along the Atlantic coast of Queens, home to beach communities that range from affluent enclaves to public housing developments. Far Rockaway, at the peninsula's eastern end, has faced significant economic challenges but maintains a strong community identity.

The park features athletic fields, basketball courts, a playground, and a waterfront promenade along Jamaica Bay. Views across the bay take in the marshlands of the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge and the distant skyline of Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Far Rockaway was severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy in October 2012, with storm surge flooding devastating homes, businesses, and public infrastructure including parks. The recovery from Sandy has included improvements to waterfront parks as part of broader coastal resilience planning.

Bayswater Park serves a diverse community at the literal edge of the city, providing outdoor recreation and waterfront access in a neighborhood that is simultaneously remote and deeply connected to the ocean environment that defines the Rockaway Peninsula's character.
