Beach Channel Park is a nearly 13-acre waterfront park along Beach Channel Drive in Rockaway Beach, Queens, overlooking Jamaica Bay on the north side of the Rockaway Peninsula. The park provides bayside recreation space as a complement to the ocean beaches on the peninsula's southern shore.
The Rockaway Peninsula's unique geography, bounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the south and Jamaica Bay to the north, gives it a maritime character distinct from any other neighborhood in Queens. Beach Channel Park takes advantage of the calmer bay-side waters, offering a different waterfront experience than the ocean beaches.
The park features walking paths, seating areas, playgrounds, and open green space. The bayfront location provides views across Jamaica Bay to the marshlands and the distant shores of Brooklyn and the rest of Queens, along with spectacular sunset views over the water.
The Rockaway communities have developed a strong sense of identity centered on their relationship to the water. Beach Channel Park serves this identity by providing public access to the bay shore, connecting residents to the marine environment that surrounds them on both sides of the peninsula.
Beach Channel Park is part of the network of parks and public spaces that make the Rockaway Peninsula livable year-round, providing outdoor recreation that extends beyond the summer beach season into the quieter months when the peninsula's permanent residents have the shoreline to themselves.
