Spring Creek Park South is a large nature area on the Queens side of the Brooklyn-Queens border, encompassing salt marshes, grasslands, and waterfront along Jamaica Bay.
The park is part of the broader Spring Creek Park system, which includes over 200 acres of marshland and upland habitat along the northern shore of Jamaica Bay. The marshes provide essential habitat for migratory shorebirds and wading birds.
Jamaica Bay's salt marshes are among the most ecologically important habitats in the New York metropolitan area, filtering water, absorbing storm surge, and providing nursery habitat for fish and shellfish.
The area around Spring Creek has been the subject of major environmental remediation efforts, with former landfills and industrial sites being cleaned up and restored as natural habitat.
Spring Creek Park South provides access to the Jamaica Bay ecosystem for the communities of eastern Queens and southeastern Brooklyn, offering nature trails and birdwatching in one of the city's most important coastal wetlands.
