Heritage Park is a neighborhood park in the New Brighton section of Staten Island's North Shore, providing green space near the St. George ferry terminal and the cultural institutions along Richmond Terrace.
New Brighton was one of the first areas of Staten Island to be developed as a resort destination in the 19th century, when wealthy New Yorkers built summer homes along the North Shore to escape Manhattan's heat.
Richmond Terrace, the road along the park, follows the North Shore waterfront and connects St. George to the Snug Harbor Cultural Center, one of Staten Island's most important cultural institutions.
The North Shore of Staten Island has experienced significant new development in recent years, with residential and commercial projects transforming the area around the St. George ferry terminal.
