Tompkinsville Park

Tompkinsville Park is a neighborhood park in the Tompkinsville section of Staten Island's North Shore, near the Staten Island Ferry terminal and the heart of the borough's most urban neighborhood.

Tompkinsville, named for Vice President Daniel Tompkins, is the neighborhood immediately adjacent to the St. George ferry terminal. The area has experienced significant new development as the North Shore transforms from a declining commercial district into a mixed-use neighborhood.

The park serves as a gathering space for the diverse North Shore community, which includes Sri Lankan, Mexican, African American, and longstanding Italian-American populations. The neighborhood's diversity is reflected in its restaurants and businesses.

The Tompkinsville area was the site of the July 2014 death of Eric Garner during an encounter with NYPD officers, an event that galvanized the Black Lives Matter movement and sparked national debate about police use of force.
