Bicentennial Veterans Memorial Park is a waterfront park in the Throgs Neck section of the eastern Bronx, providing shoreline access and recreation along the East River near the Throgs Neck Bridge.
The park was created in 1976 to commemorate the American Bicentennial and honors the military veterans of the Throgs Neck community, a neighborhood with a strong tradition of military service.
Throgs Neck is a peninsular neighborhood at the eastern edge of the Bronx, surrounded by the East River and Long Island Sound. The community's waterfront location and relatively isolated geography give it a tight-knit, small-town character.
The Throgs Neck Bridge, connecting the Bronx to the Whitestone section of Queens, is visible from the park. The bridge was completed in 1961 as a companion to the Whitestone Bridge to the north.
Bicentennial Veterans Memorial Park provides waterfront recreation and patriotic commemoration in one of the Bronx's most community-oriented peninsular neighborhoods.
