Mosholu Preserve is a forested natural area along the Mosholu Parkway in the Norwood and Bedford Park neighborhoods of the Bronx, providing one of the most pristine woodland environments in New York City.
The preserve contains mature native forest, wetlands, and sections of the Bronx River, creating a genuine wilderness experience within the city. The forest canopy supports migratory songbirds, raptors, and other wildlife.
Mosholu Parkway, the tree-lined boulevard that runs through the area, was laid out in 1888 following the parkway concept pioneered by Frederick Law Olmsted, the co-designer of Central Park, as part of a system of grand parkways connecting the Bronx's major parks.
The Norwood and Bedford Park neighborhoods surrounding the preserve are diverse residential communities near the campus of Fordham University and the New York Botanical Garden.
Mosholu Preserve provides a rare example of mature urban forest in New York City, offering nature enthusiasts, hikers, and birdwatchers a woodland experience that feels remarkably remote from the surrounding city.
