1251 Sixth Avenue is a Privately Owned Public Space in the northern section of the Sixth Avenue POPS corridor in Midtown, near the boundary between the office district and the residential Upper West Side.
This section of Sixth Avenue, in the low 50s, represents the northern edge of the Midtown commercial core. The POPS serves both office workers in the surrounding towers and residents of the adjacent residential neighborhoods.
The building is near the Time Warner Center (now Deutsche Bank Center) at Columbus Circle, which marked a major expansion of the Midtown commercial district northward when it was completed in 2003.
The northern Sixth Avenue POPS benefit from their proximity to Central Park, which begins just a few blocks to the north at 59th Street. Workers from the surrounding offices use the POPS as a staging area before walking to the park during lunch breaks.
