1285 Sixth Avenue is a Privately Owned Public Space in Midtown, one of the northernmost plazas in the Sixth Avenue POPS corridor. The outdoor plaza provides public seating near the transition from Midtown's commercial core to the residential neighborhoods of the Upper West Side.

The building is located near Columbus Circle and the southwest corner of Central Park, placing the POPS within easy reach of the park's attractions. The nearby Merchant's Gate entrance to Central Park is one of the most used entrances to the park.

This section of Sixth Avenue is near the headquarters of several major financial and media companies, and the plaza serves the office workers from these buildings alongside tourists heading to or from Central Park.

The POPS corridor along Sixth Avenue stretches from the upper 40s to the mid-50s, with 1285 Sixth Avenue near its northern terminus. Together, these plazas provide a continuous public amenity through the heart of Midtown.

This space represents the endpoint of one of Manhattan's most significant linear public space systems, where the corporate plazas of Midtown give way to the open green of Central Park.
