1345 Sixth Avenue

1345 Sixth Avenue is a Privately Owned Public Space at the northern end of the Sixth Avenue POPS corridor in Midtown, near Columbus Circle and the entrance to Central Park.

The building is located within a block of Columbus Circle, one of Manhattan's most important intersections. Columbus Circle marks the point from which all official distances from New York City are measured, making it the literal center of the city's geography.

The proximity to Central Park gives this POPS a different character from the plazas farther south along the avenue. Workers and visitors use the space as a waypoint before entering the park, and the sense of openness created by the park's proximity makes the plaza feel less confined.

Columbus Circle has been transformed by the development of the Time Warner Center (2003), the renovation of the circle itself, and improvements to the park entrances. The POPS at 1345 Sixth Avenue benefits from this enhanced urban environment.

This plaza represents the terminus of one of Manhattan's great linear public space systems: the Sixth Avenue POPS corridor, which stretches from the upper 40s to this point near 55th Street, providing over a dozen outdoor plazas along a single avenue.
