800 Third Avenue is a Privately Owned Public Space on Third Avenue at 49th Street, the northernmost cluster of the avenue's postwar corporate plazas in Midtown East.

Third Avenue at 50th Street marks the approximate boundary between Midtown's commercial district and the more residential character of the blocks to the north. The POPS serves this transitional zone.

The avenue's corporate plazas in the upper 40s and low 50s collectively provide significant outdoor public space along a corridor that was barren and shadowed before the elevated railway's demolition in the 1950s.

The POPS at 800 Third Avenue provides outdoor space at the northern edge of the Third Avenue office corridor, where the commercial energy of Midtown gives way to the residential calm of the Upper East Side.

This plaza marks the end of Third Avenue's corporate plaza corridor, beyond which the avenue's character becomes predominantly residential.
