Alexander Hamilton Playground

Alexander Hamilton Playground sits in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood of upper Manhattan, named for the Founding Father whose country estate, the Grange, once occupied nearby land. The playground covers just under an acre between West 140th and West 141st Streets along Hamilton Place.

The Hamilton Heights neighborhood derives its name from Alexander Hamilton's connection to the area. Hamilton purchased a 32-acre estate here in 1800 and built Hamilton Grange, his only home, which still stands as a National Memorial just blocks away on Convent Avenue.

The playground features play equipment for children of various ages, basketball courts, and open space for informal recreation. It serves a vital role in a densely populated area where families have limited access to private outdoor space.

The surrounding Hamilton Heights neighborhood is known for its remarkable collection of row houses and apartment buildings from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Hamilton Heights Historic District encompasses much of the area around the playground.
