Stanley Isaacs Playground

Stanley Isaacs Playground is a half-acre playground near East 96th Street and the FDR Drive on the Upper East Side. The playground is named for Stanley M. Isaacs, a Republican reform politician who served on the New York City Council from 1941 to 1962 and was known as 'the conscience of the City Council' for his unwavering commitment to civil liberties and good government.

Isaacs was one of the few Republican elected officials in heavily Democratic New York City during the mid-20th century. He distinguished himself through his independence, his willingness to challenge both parties on matters of principle, and his advocacy for civil rights, public housing reform, and transparent government.

The playground serves families in the Yorkville section of the Upper East Side, near the boundary with East Harlem at 96th Street.
